Seldom can anyone put an exact date upon an antique furnishing. Indeed, a date on it would immediately by suspect! Yet even beginners find, surprisingly enough, that innumerable details of design, materials, ornament and manufacturing techniques are deciding for them almost subconsciously whether a period piece is “right”.
