These are the horses and men Ron Bisman singles out as the brightest stars in the galaxy of New Zealand trotting. The horses were the favourites of a nation which followed their fortunes and took them to heart. The men are those whose skill and success with their charges was extraordinary. Ron Bisman details the careers of his ‘greats’, chronicles their exploits and reveals the source of their outstanding qualities. Some readers will question his omissions but none will deny that all horses and men included in this volume are, without doubt, foremost among New Zealand’s TROTTING GREATS.
Ron Bisman is New Zealand’s most widely-travelled and experi- enced trotting writer. Born in Lyttelton in 1932, he joined The Press, Christchurch, as a cadet reporter in 1949. Since then he has been editor of the NZ Trotting
Calendar, Friday Flash, associate editor of the Kentucky-published Horseman and Fair World and racing editor of Truth (NZ) Ltd. He is now turf editor of the Auckland Star. His first book was “Cardigan Bay”; he has edited the “DB Trotting Annual” since its inception in 1972 and with Tayler Strong produced “The Interdominions”.
