Description
‘It has been proved beyond doubt that just because some human beings have to sit in wheel-chairs, it does not prevent them from being taller than a lot of people who stand up.’ – From the Foreword by Jimmy Savile
For Skip Wilkins, sport was his life. His school nominated him ‘Athlete of the Year’. Then a water-skiing accident left him to face life from a wheelchair.
Skip emerged from hospital ‘handicapped in a normal world’ as his doctor put it. Undeterred, he went on to study psychology, to meet and marry Daphne, and to take up work as the Director of a Crisis Home for disturbed children. In all of this, he found strength and peace in a new relationship with God.
At the Stoke Mandeville Games for the Disabled, Skip became world champion in the shot put. ‘But the real race is life,’ Skip says. ‘I run this race with a commitment to God and a determined faith.’
