·of this book
‘This little book is a real gem. It is
charmingly written, well planned and
delightfully lucid. Dr. McGhie has achieved
simplicity without being unduly elementary;
application, without being shortsighted or
boring. It will undoubtedly be widely read
by students and trained nurses in the
general and mental field.”-

“Student nurses tend to find psychology
a difficult subject, and although they may
enjoy the lectures, they rarely succeed in
thinking or writing clearly about the
subject. So far, books have been of little
help. Generally, psychology books for
nurses have been as obscure or as trivial
as the nurses’ own thoughts. Andrew
McGhie’s book is neither obscure nor
trivial. It is eminently readable, and though
the author uses the fewest possible
words, he never sinks to the common-
place. He makes it perfectly clear that the
subject is scientific. He states findings
concisely, giving references without
boring the reader with footnotes, indicating
where facts are proved and where there
is controversy.
The subject matter is so well presented
in this book that students shouid have
little difficulty in providing illustrations for
it, from their own experiences. It will
certainly go a very long way in creating
interest and meeting the students’ needs.”

“It is likely to stlrnulate thoughtful nurses –
seniors no less than students – to think in
a new and better-informed way about their
patients and themselves, to their mutual
benefit and incidentally enhance their
chances of success in examinations. It
deserves a place in the library of every
training school for nurses.”-Practitioner
“An essential textbook for nurses in
training, but it will also appeal to a wider
public than this.
Anyone whose work involves personal
relationships demanding sympathetic
insight into the needs of others will find
in this book much of value.”-Psychology
