Description
Morality in Practice is about recognizing, after carefully examining sometimes radically opposing positions, that some views are objectively better than others.
Look to Morality in Practice for a well-balanced examination of 13 modern moral problems – such as gun control, abortion, euthanasia, affirmative action and sex equality – that rarely leave readers unsure of where the stand. By featuring radically opposing views, presented through numerous readings for these 13 contemporary controversies, this book provides you with an intellectually fair chance to decide and recognize for yourself what is and what is not a morally defensible position.
The title reflects the book’s purposeful connection of applying moral theories to the realities of modern life. For each moral problem, the book presents several practical applications, such as Supreme Court cases. In addition, it furnishes readers with an overview of each problem and suggestions for further reading to assist them in constructing reasonable arguments of their own.
New to the Fifth Edition
- Three new sections on gun control, hate speech, and punishment and responsibility
- Thirty-five new readings, found throughout the book
- Significantly revised sections on affirmative action, as well as on gay and lesbian rights
