Description
It has been said that the values which
undergird an entire culture can be over-
hauled in one generation. This is ex-
actly what is happening in America
today. We are enmeshed in a civil war
that will determine which value system
will guide our nation. And someday
soon, a winner will emerge and the
loser will fade from memory.
Children are the prize to the winners.
Those who determine what young
people are taught and what they experi-
ence – what they see, hear, think and
believe – will set the course for the fu-
ture of this nation. For now, American
children are balanced precariously and
the outcome is very much in doubt.
In Children at Risk, james Dobson
and Gary Bauer trace the “Great Unrav-
eling” of American culture and morals
that has occurred over the last 30
years, and give common sense advice to
parents, teachers, and government
leaders on how our children can be pro-
tected. They portray in vivid terms the
cultural battle raging around:
the role of faith in our society
what values must be taught in our
schools
how the family can be strengthened
and protected
the sanctity of life
Despite the disturbing trends that
have led to today’s crisis in the family,
Dobson and Bauer believe there is a
reason for hope. They look toward the
nineties as a time that is ripe for last-
ing, true values to be re-integrated into
American life. In Children at Risk they
offer a plan for the “Great Relearning”
– an agenda to recreate a stable society
using family as the basic building
block.
Children at Risk is perhaps the one
book that can ignite in each of us-
moms, dads, pastors, teachers, and
public leaders – a sense of urgency
and a renewed passion to reclaim the
timeless values that we hold dear and
to rebuild the kind of America
we can confidently hand to the next
generation.
