Say the authors, “Our culture saturates us with sex. The media is a prime source of that overexposure. But our conversations, jokes, dramas, and literature all contribute. Sex is woven into the very fabric of our existence. There is no escape. We cannot protect our children from it, and we cannot pretend that it doesn’t exist. So the only choice is to be knowledgeable. We need to have the best information to help ourselves and to help our children. Knowledge can make a positive difference in our lives and influence the development and adjustment of our children. That is why we wrote A GIFT FOR ALL AGES …”
Following their earlier bestseller, THE GIFT OF SEX, the authors now take their readers into a deeper understanding of what human sexuality is all about. They deal with all aspects of sexual expression from family planning to handling adult sexuality in special situations. While their first book dealt with sex for couples, A GIFT FOR ALL AGES is a “family handbook on sexuality,” addressing broader family issues, and equipping parents to deal not only with their own sexuality but with the ever-increasing sexual awareness of their children.
The Penners sensitively instruct parents on how to begin teaching children from the moment of birth through the process of making biblically sound sexual decisions. They give guidelines on how to help teenagers and singles of all ages distinguish between sexual feelings and sexual actions. They discuss what the Scriptures teach about values worth maintaining in a sex-centered world … how to handle the “gray” areas in dealing with sexuality. They help young couples make the decision of having children, as well as prepare them for the changes children will bring. Many myths of sex and adult sexuality are dispelled.
A GIFT FOR ALL AGES is practical in content and illustrated with case histories and personal experiences of the authors, who have teenagers of their own. It is a comprehensive handbook for dealing with the spiritual, emotional, and physical aspects of sexuality throughout life.
