Description
Farm Machinery and
Tractors’
R. H. COCHRANE
Farmers have long needed such a practical
handbook as this, providing in handy form
the basic information about the principles,
operation and maintenance of farm machin-
ery and tractors. The author, a former
. lecturer in Farm Engineering at Canterbury
Agricultural College, Lincoln, deals com-
prehensively not only with farm tractors,
but with the many different implements
used in cultivating the soil and harvesting
crops, as well as with milking machines,
shearing machines, orchard-spraying equip-
ment and pumps.
Causes and prevention of the too fre-
quent accidents resulting from the over-
turning of tractors are dealt with in an
important section of the book. Mr. Coch-
rane was among the first in New Zealand
to assist farmers by pointing out the condi-
tions under which such accidents were
most likely to occur and by giving sugges-
tions for avoiding them.
The book is copiously illustrated with
an unusually clear set ofdiagrams.
The illustration on’ the jacket shows a
tractor and plough at work on a farm in
North Canterbury, New Zealand, and is
from a photograph by Mr. G. Lyons,
Christchurch.
