How can I pay?

We gladly accept credit cards, Paypal, and bank deposits. Detailed instructions for each of these options is available at checkout.  Please note our prices are in New Zealand dollars.

Do you ship internationally / overseas?

Overseas orders are welcome.  Our advanced shopping cart allows you to select from a number of shipping methods (International Air, International Express Courier and International Courier) all through New Zealand Post.

Did you know that all our books are weighed and volume measurements taken at the time they are listed? Unlike some book dealers we don’t build the price of the shipping into our prices and then say that we offer free delivery! This helps us keep our prices low and saves you money.

How do I convert the prices on your website into my countries currency?

Please note the currency converter now located at the top of each page. This new feature allows you to quickly change the prices on our site to the major world currencies.

What are your delivery options if I’m New Zealand based?

Standard parcel post, tracked parcel post, and courier delivery are all available options. Note: If you wish tracked parcel post shipping to a rural delivery address, we require payment of a separate fee to cover the New Zealand Post surcharge for this service (a software issue temporarily prevents us from billing for this service at checkout). If you wish tracked parcel post delivery to a rural location, please contact us to confirm the availability and the cost of this service. How do you package items, and is there a packaging fee?

Depending on the number of selections, ordered books are sent in one of the following ways:

1) Custom wrapped — Books are first wrapped in plastic which is then followed with wrapping paper.
2) Boxed together — Plastic wrap is not usually used (unless requested) but we add protective filler.
3)  Mailer bags — Selections are placed inside with protective filler and/or other material.

Note:  We charge a $4.50 packaging fee per order, no matter how many books you order, to help towards the cost of packaging materials and petrol.

How long before my order is processed?

Most orders are promptly processed within 3-5 days or less. Although it seldom happens, we do ask that you allow additional time for delivery if circumstances beyond our control occur. If such a situation does develop, we will always do our best to keep you informed of the anticipated delivery time.

What happens if I need to return an item?

Your satisfaction is guaranteed, but we can only offer replacement with same-priced books from our website. We reserve the right to require the return of unsatisfactory selections.  Buyers are responsible for shipping costs to and from our Napier location on both returned and replaced items (although you may be entitled to one or more same-priced books if we are at fault).  Any request to return books should be made within the first 30 days of purchase.

Will I receive one of Kate’s drawings?

Thank you for taking time to read these FAQS!  Depending on the space in your package and the number of orders received, you might receive one of Kate’s unique bookmarks prepared especially for you.

How do I contact you if I have a question?

Please see our contact section for complete information on how to reach us.  We look forward to hearing from you!!  Messages left on the shop mobile number must include a complete New Zealand landline number.  We are also able to return certain overseas calls but we ask that you include the best time to call and a complete landline number (including your country code).  In the event we are unable to phone your country of residence,  please do leave your email address as an alternative contact method.  Note that we are unable to return calls to mobile phones at the present time.

May we donate books?

Used book donations are always welcome at Kate’s Preloved Books. Contributors receive an online voucher on their next purchase; its value will depend on the condition and number of books contributed.

Am I protected under Fair Trading Act and the Consumer Guarantees Act?

Kate’s Preloved Books is currently conducting online trade through this website.
