Description
A review from
THE NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL JOURNAL
The fact that an edition of this little book has been produced each year since 1976 shows its popularity, which is easily understood. It is written simply and clearly, without pretensions. It contains a great deal of information about wine, the grapes from which it is made, the methods of making it, the makers, and the industry generally. This is information which cannot fail to interest New Zealanders who are increasingly appreciating the qualities of local wine.
There is a survey, label by label, of the wines currently available, including the latest vintages, authoritative so far as it is possible to be an authority on a subject where so much depends upon personal tastes and preferences. You do not have to agree with everything Peter Saunders says, he does not expect you to, but his comments will give you a very good basis for making your own judgements.
Strongly recommended, not to be taken at a gulp as the reviewer did, but to be sipped frequently. R.E. Wright-St Clair, Hamilton.
One of many reader letters:
Your last ‘Guide to N.Z. Wine’ has been extremely useful to me when purchasing wine from vineyards around Napier and wholesale outlets. Not being able to invest as much money as I would like to into stocking my small cellar and weekly drinking needs, I make constant reference to your book and have not been disappointed yet by your choice of wines and when to drink them.I am sure I’m just one of the many people in New Zealand who fully appreciate the work you are doing to promote N.Z. wines. –Ian Turbitt, Napier.
